Although I'm of a Libertarian-Conservative Bent, I really enjoyed the works of Kurt Vonnegut

When I first read SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE (Based on Vonneguts actual experience as a POW in WW2 and survival during the Firebombing of Dresden)In H.S. back in 1976, I felt I discovered a world of a writer who I could relate to rather than the tired tomes of J.D. Salinger and Arthur Miller
From there, I read CATS CRADLE, MOTHER NIGHT, BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS, PLAYER PIANO, and GOD BLESS YOU MR. ROSEWATER...
Vonnegut was also friends with Conservative Pundit William F. Buckley
Vonneguts characters also were everyday people with everyday problems and were more believable that wet wimp Holden Caufield....
Vonneguts characters stood for what they believed in and went down with a bang...
Kurt Vonnegut, you are missed....
